The Actress Says Discussing Trump Would ‘Add Fuel to a Fire’ Dividing the Country Apart
Jennifer Lawrence has declared that she no longer feels appropriate to voice opinions countering the Trump presidency, concerned it could exacerbate divisive discussions and further divisions across the country.
‘I Don’t Really Know If I Should’, Says Jennifer Lawrence
Speaking with media, the Oscar winner commented, “During the first Trump administration, I thought I was acting frantically like a chicken with my head cut off. But experience has shown, election after election, public figures have no real impact whatsoever on electoral choices.”
She continued, “What’s the point? I’m just expressing personal views on an issue that’s going to add fuel to a fire tearing the country apart.”
Political Evolution
The actress has admitted freely about backing conservative and liberal candidates over the years. Brought up by conservative Republicans in her home state, she cast her ballot for the Republican nominee in the 2008 election then moving to the Democratic party and stating she recognized during the Obama era that voting Republican was undermining her own rights as a female citizen.
Previous Comments
Several years ago, she commented that Donald Trump’s election could represent “a catastrophic event” and backed Joe Biden in the 2020 election. More recently, she lent her support to the Democratic nominee, “because I think she’s an amazing candidate and I know that she will take all necessary steps to protect abortion access.”
Industry Position
Jennifer Lawrence was joined by numerous celebrities in her disapproval of Trump as a presidential contender, but the limited influence stars have over the electoral decisions was underscored by Trump’s victory.
“Another four years feels different,” noted Lawrence of his administration. “As he stated his intentions. We understood his record for the previous administration. He was transparent. And that’s the option selected.”
New Release
Jennifer Lawrence is highlighting the drama, Lynne Ramsay’s project in which she stars as a recent parent who struggles with her psychological well-being in the countryside. Speaking at a media event for the movie in Venice, she spoke about the conflict in Gaza: “I feel fear. It’s devastating. What’s occurring is nothing short of a genocide and it’s terrible.”
Wider Issues
She continued by stating that she was disheartened by “the disrespect in the conversations of the political landscape right now and how that is going to be normalised to the kids right now. It’s going to be standard to them that leaders are untruthful.”
She sought to redirect anger about the situation to policymakers rather than celebrities. “Concentrate on those accountable,” she advised, in what many took to be a nod to the recent commitment signed by thousands of entertainment industry figures to avoid specific industry bodies.
Individual Insights
The actor, who earned critical acclaim at a young age for her part in the acclaimed film, is receiving praise for her performance in her latest project. Although the director has denied the plot being seen as one of maternal mental health issues and psychosis, she shared that she connected with aspects of her role’s experience after the birth of her new baby, soon after shooting ended.
“I felt anxiety regarding my baby,” she said, “just picturing every potential danger, and then questioning everything that I was doing. I was seeing a therapist, but I started taking a drug called Zurzuvae and I continued it for two weeks and it made a difference.”
Professional Experiences
Jennifer Lawrence also discussed about the empowering aspect of completing nude scenes in the project while she was in pregnancy and limited physically.
“There’s a freedom,” she commented, regarding the need to cast off vanity. “Honestly, I occasionally wonder where I’m like, What technically are the differences between myself and a sex worker? But it doesn’t keep me up at night.”
